Agony in the Garden Bloodstone & Garnet Rosary
When He arrived at the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done. “Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
Saint Josemaría Escrivá wrote:
“Pray, lest you enter into temptation. ~ And Peter fell asleep. ~ And the other apostles. ~ And you, little friend, fell asleep..., and I too was another sleepy-headed Peter.
Jesus, alone and sad, suffers and soaks the earth with His blood. Kneeling on the hard ground, He perseveres in prayer... He weeps for you... and for me: the weight of the sins of men overwhelms Him…………. Jesus is in agony. ~ He continues praying more intensely... ~ He approaches us, who are asleep: Arise, pray ~ He says again ~, lest you enter into temptation (Luke 22:46).
We are cowards: we follow Him from afar, but awake and praying. ~ Prayer... Prayer....... Jesus prays in the garden. Abba Pater! God is my Father, even though He may send me suffering. He loves me tenderly, even while wounding me. Jesus suffers, to fulfil the Will of the Father... And I, who also wish to fulfil the most holy Will of God, following in the footsteps of the Master, can I complain if I too meet suffering as my travelling companion?
This rosary is dedicated to all who sleep when Our Lord is calling. It is a prayer that we may recall His words when He said, “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit,” and in this recollection, we may deepen our will to follow Him; to stay awake.
This rosary is dedicated to all who have suffering as their traveling companion. It is a prayer of hope that we may unite our suffering to His and, in that, allow Him to carry our cross. And it is a prayer to Mary, asking that she wrap her mantle around us and dry our tears with her veil.
There is significance in the name of the stone chosen for this rosary; African bloodstone. The stone, like the ground in Gethsemane, is cold to touch. Its color varies from shades of dark green, representing the darkness of the green in the garden on that night, to deep red which symbolizes His blood. The deep red garnet Paters symbolize “His sweat that became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.” The hand-cast bronze center shows the Holy Spirit surrounded by a crown of thorns. The 2 ½” open weave crucifix is also hand-cast bronze. This very limited rosary measures 22 ½”
Edition limited to two.

“From the beginning Christian piety, especially during the Lenten devotion of the Way of the Cross, has focused on the individual moments of the Passion, realizing that here is found the culmination of the revelation of God's love and the source of our salvation. The Rosary selects certain moments from the Passion, inviting the faithful to contemplate them in their hearts and to relive them.”
~ Saint John Paul II~
